What is Digital Forensic Forum Prague (DFF PRAGUE)

The first impulse for creating DFF Prague was the fact that the digital forensic area is not given adequate attention in Europe. When you are studying information resources it could be seen that Europe is trailing in this area, but really, that is not true. DFF Prague wants to improve this.

We understand there are some particularities of forensic work in Europe. Digital forensic experts are divided by the jurisdiction of individual European countries and we must be in compliance with them. But, in opposite to it, Cyber Crime (Computer Crime or whatever we will call these types of criminal activities) does not recognize the borders, it does not respect any jurisdiction. That is where DFF Prague comes in, as the platform for joint efforts against this kind of crime.

We understand that Cyber Crime is not only a European problem, but a problem of the entire world. DFF Prague is an open platform; it is for all who are willing to cooperate. DFF Prague will accept all good inputs. DFF Prague wants to be a source of knowledge for all of you.

We understand that special law-enforcement digital forensic labs have their own specifics and methods which are not proper to discuss publicly. DFF fully respects this. But Cyber Crime does not think about who the forensic examiner will be. Latency of this kind of crime is great and seriousness of it is very important. Let us join our efforts to face this kind of criminality together. For Justice, it is not important who discovers digital evidence. It is only important to discover it using the best methods. DFF Prague acknowledges the European "Public Private Partnership" programme.

We understand that digital forensic is not only the problem of criminal investigations. In information security incident investigation the same methods and rules are used. Digital forensic could be used in the investigation process of any security incident, not only information security incidents, because IT can be found in many everyday activities, we are an information society now. Digital forensic is an integral part of the Incident Response Handling (IRH) process. DFF Prague also wants to provide opportunity for professionals from this specific area and to share experience with experts from IRH teams.

DFF Prague 2007 meeting

There is only one basic and simple aim of DFF Prague - to provide opportunity to meet people sharing some interest in the digital forensic area; law-enforcement experts and others from public services, private forensic experts and forensic laboratories, experts from special investigative departments of the private sector (financial, industry, services etc.), lawyers from the IT-law area and any others with interest in digital forensic area.

The DFF Prague Conference does not want to be a grandiose event with a lot of sponsors and organised in a luxury hotel. We want to be a pure working meeting of people interested in the digital forensic area, everyday working people which understand digital forensic as their profession, as their mission.

The DFF Prague Conference is not a one-shot event, but a never-ending activity. DFF web portal is a meeting point where it is possible to share and solve everyday problems. The DFF Prague Conference is only an opportunity to meet the people you meet everyday on the net, on the DFF web portal.

How DFF Prague works

The keystone of DFF Prague is professionalism, enthusiasm, willingness and goodwill. It is not possible to gain any results without these attributes. But the breadth and importance of digital forensic problems is great and enthusiasm is not enough to solve problems effectively.
We turn to all who are willing to help with ideas of DFF Prague. The simplest way is to sponsor the success of DFF Prague Conference 2007.
We turn to the European Commission and we invite representatives to join DFF Prague Conference 2007. We are sure that DFF Prague Conference 2007 brings enough professional inputs and suggestions for successful development of the digital forensic area in Europe and outlines new ways also important for European Commission.
